The Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, plans to provide El Reducto beach, the largest and main beach in the capital of Lanzarote, a floating walkway that allows users of this beach to enjoy bathing during low tide.

As is known, the intertidal zone of El Reducto is covered by an area of stones whose extraction is prohibited by environmental regulations. To this end, the Arrecife City Council has carried out a project and technical report aimed at obtaining authorization from the Coasts to permanently install a floating walkway in the central area of this urban beach. This type of facility exists in many areas of Europe.

The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has detailed that "residents think that it is the City Council that does not proceed to remove these stones in the intertidal zone, when the truth is that the entire area is protected by the environmental regulations of the Arrecife and Lanzarote coastline".

To this end, during the past year, the Department of Beaches and Environment, led by Davinia Déniz de León, commissioned the elaboration of a technical report and project that deems the installation of a walkway (floating platform) suitable in the central area of El Reducto beach. This area has been designated as it is very visible from the control and surveillance tower that the Arrecife City Council has for rescue and lifeguard services.

The Department of Beaches has already sent the application for authorization of the installation to the General Directorate of Coasts and Management of the Canarian Maritime Space, of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility. Once this approval is received, the Beaches Area of the Arrecife City Council would put this assembly out to tender.

The City Council, Councilor Davinia Déniz has detailed, "has planned many other improvements throughout the beach coastline of the municipality of Arrecife." "El Reducto beach has the Blue Flag award and in recent months, after the pedestrianization works of a section of its surroundings on Fred Olsen Avenue, it is gaining momentum both for residents and visitors. In the cruise season, from September to April, it is very common to see the beach very lively and crowded," they conclude from the City Council.
