The Department of Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council is launching this Friday an important reinforcement of the municipal service for collecting furniture and bulky waste at home, with the incorporation of five new workers and a new truck that will increase the frequency and response capacity throughout the city.
Until now, the municipal collection service for bulky waste had a truck with a driver and two laborers who worked from Monday to Saturday, from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., attending to appointments previously assigned to residents who request the removal of furniture or appliances from their homes.
In addition, another additional truck goes out two days a week (Monday and Wednesday), with a driver and a laborer, to reinforce collection in areas with the highest accumulation of belongings.
With the incorporation of the new technical and human resources announced by Jacobo Lemes, the service will have two daily trucks for collecting belongings (each with its team of driver and laborers), a third truck that will continue to operate two days a week to reinforce collection, and two more operators assigned to the removal of debris, expanding the service's capacity to keep streets and lots clean.
The councilor emphasized that "this reinforcement will allow us to double the daily capacity of the service and respond more quickly to the requests of the residents. It is another step in our commitment to offer an efficient and accessible cleaning service."
How to Request a Pickup
The collection of bulky waste is a free service and is carried out only by prior appointment. Residents can request it by landline (928 815 560) or via WhatsApp (629 793 705), bearing in mind that the hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
It should also be remembered that depositing furniture, appliances, or rubble on public roads without prior notice or outside of permitted hours constitutes an infraction punishable under the municipal ordinance.
The fines can reach 3,000 or even 4,000 euros, depending on the severity of the infraction, in addition to the costs of cleaning and replacement.
The City Council maintains video surveillance and control systems at various points in the city, which have already made it possible to identify and sanction offenders.
In this regard, the Councillor for Cleaning, Jacobo Lemes, calls for citizen collaboration, and points out that the Area he directs will continue working on the comprehensive improvement of public cleaning and collection services, and betting on more human and technical resources, more agile management, and the active involvement of citizens.
"We are making a very big effort, with more personnel, more trucks, and better resources, because we want a cleaner Arrecife. But no matter how many resources we put in, if people don't collaborate, it's a bad situation. Keeping the city clean is everyone's responsibility," he emphasizes.
