The Arrecife City Council has given the green light this Wednesday for the construction of a new outdoor sports facility in Argana Alta. The Municipal Government Board has approved in this meeting the segregation of a plot of land owned by the Cabildo that will allow for the provision of multipurpose outdoor courts as annexes to the Argana Football Field. It will be located next to the current area where the headquarters of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium is located.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, have been in the area where this new sports facility will be located in the neighborhood with the most residents on the island, and it is one of the demands of the residents, athletes, and young people of this neighborhood who, until now, have lacked outdoor sports courts. These new sports facilities will complement the reopened Argana Sports Pavilion.
This new space, in addition to having all the necessary elements for sports practice, will also have shaded areas and green spaces that will beautify the urban image of the Argana Alta neighborhood, which has the support of the Cabildo's Public Works, where in another area of the segregated plot, the warehouses of the Insular Public Works Area will be expanded.
Jacobo Medina, for his part, assures that this future work "will respond to a historic request from the residents of Argana Alta." "The insular Public Works Area will execute this new sports court that will soon go out for public tender, so that as soon as possible the young people and athletes of the most populated neighborhood in the capital will have a space to practice sports," added the vice president, who also pointed out that in this way "the plan to reactivate the insular economy through public works continues."
A plot with good road connections
The City Council's Public Works Department has carried out the modernization of Tenderete street in this term, which connects the neighborhoods of Titerroy and Argana. The new sports facilities planned in Argana Alta will have access from this strategic road, which shows a new urban image, and will be built as an annex to the Argana Alta Municipal Field, where the City Council is carrying out important improvements.
Yonathan de León has highlighted that the union of these multipurpose courts next to the Argana Field will allow future actions to be undertaken to provide the neighborhood with a sports city, taking into account that during this year the Arrecife Supplementary Plan will be definitively approved. Currently, the City Council has already renovated the lighting of the soccer field and has underway the construction of a canopy to provide shade to the stands area.
From the Arrecife City Council, a plan to renovate sports facilities is underway with actions in the neighborhoods of San Francisco Javier, Altavista, Valterra, Titerroy, Las Salinas, Tinasoria, to which these new sports projects for Argana Alta are added, which will have a newly constructed multipurpose sports area, which will complement the sports facilities with the reopening of the Sports Pavilion.
