The Arrecife City Council has already awarded the contract for the renovation of the traffic light network in the capital and hopes that the works will start "shortly." This has been confirmed by the Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Ángela Hernández, who has pointed out that "surely" the works will begin on Manolo Millares street, where there are traffic lights that have not been working for weeks.

"We initially thought it was the panel, a new panel was installed and it broke down again and it seems that it is the entire channeling and then a work has to be done. But, what happens? We have already awarded the contract for the traffic light network, for all of Arrecife, it was planned to start in the month of July and surely the works will begin shortly," the councilor indicated. "The problem has been that and we were not going to start a new work now just for that," she added to justify why the traffic lights on Manolo Millares street have not yet been repaired, despite having recognized that they are "the most dangerous."

According to Hernández, the contract will entail the installation of a "completely new" traffic light network throughout the city, which will have "new technologies." In addition, video surveillance cameras will also be installed, which will be directed from the Local Police.

"All the traffic lights we have in Arrecife are quite obsolete. We have been taking out a maintenance contract to repair them but they continue to have problems and especially where there are more problems is in the cables, which seem to break down quite a bit, which are quite old," said the councilor, who stated that, however, many breakdowns are also a consequence of the fact that rats "eat the cables."

"Arrecife already needed that new network, the project was there for some time but it was blocked and the procedures as we all know are long but it has already been awarded and we are waiting for reports from the Cabildo to start the works," added the Councilor for Mobility and Transport. "We will have Arrecife a bit stirred up by the works, there will also be some discomfort, but for things to work better we will have to spend a time of sacrifice, so to speak," she concluded.
