Canary Islands continues to strengthen its digital connectivity and expand the deployment of next-generation telecommunications infrastructures. This is reflected in the latest report from the Canary Observatory of Telecommunications and the Information Society (OCTSI) of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), prepared from official data published by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures (SETELECO).

The study places Canary Islands among the autonomous communities with the best levels of digital coverage in the country. 5G coverage already reaches 99.1% of homes in the Archipelago, while 5G SA —the most advanced mobile technology— reaches 98.2%, slightly above the national average.

Furthermore, access to ultrafast fixed networks of at least 1 Gbps is already available for 90.6% of Canary Islands homes, improving on the previous year's data and placing the Canary Islands among the ten communities with the highest very high-capacity coverage.

Fiber optic to the home also maintains a high penetration in the Canary Islands, with coverage for more than 91% of homes, while the 4G mobile network reaches practically the entire territory population.

By islands, Tenerife and Gran Canaria present the highest levels of ultra-fast coverage and advanced 5G deployment, while Lanzarote and Fuerteventura also show positive evolution in fixed and mobile connectivity.

The report reflects the progress of the Canary Islands in digital transformation and reduction of the technological gap, with sustained growth of infrastructures that improves citizens' and companies' access to high-capacity digital services.
