The Teguise City Council put the finishing touch on the events programmed for Canary Islands Day with the celebration of the concert 'Herederos del Atlántico', a musical proposal that turned last Saturday night into a true exaltation of the identity and traditions of the Canary Archipelago.

The historic Convent of Santo Domingo in Teguise was dressed up to host this long-awaited encounter with Canarian music. With exquisite punctuality, at nine o'clock in the evening, six extraordinary musicians took their positions on stage under the musical direction of David Duque. The sound of the timple, accordion, transverse flute, keyboard, mandolin, and percussion began to envelop the venue, announcing the start of an evening that promised pure emotion and Canarian spirit.

Shortly after, the vocal performers of the night made their appearance. The voices of Sara Bermúdez from Lanzarote and the two from Gran Canaria, Pedro Manuel Afonso and Jesús Monzón, each with their own registers and unique nuances, were received with warm applause by an audience ready to enjoy a unique celebration.

From the first notes, the essence of the show was evident. "Herederos del Atlántico" offered a journey through the musical roots of the islands, where Canarian identity markers were present from beginning to end. Seguidillas, Folías, Malagueñas, Mazurca, and Isas followed one another naturally, intertwined with emblematic pieces from the Canarian popular songbook such as Sombras del Nublo, Rosa de los Vientos, Tamadaba, or Aíres de Lime, among other compositions that evoked emotion and memory among the attendees.

David Duque's musical direction more than achieved the proposed objectives. The careful coordination between musicians and soloists, along with a sober and elegant staging, where every detail was perfectly measured, allowed the audience to enjoy a different concert of great artistic quality on such a significant date for all Canarians.

The emotion grew as the night progressed, culminating in a festive and participatory finale. With the audience on their feet and completely engaged, the moment arrived to perform the always-awaited Isa Parrandera, that essential piece in any celebration that breathes Canarian air. It was the perfect culmination to an evening filled with feeling, tradition, and pride in one's roots.

The night also left room for very special news. Attendees learned that Pedro Manuel Afonso, present at the concert, will have the privilege of participating in the next visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Gran Canaria, an occasion on which he will perform the emblematic song "La noche en Arguineguín" on the pier of the town of Arguineguín, located on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria, a work by the remembered composer and writer from Gran Canaria, Néstor Álamo. As a preview of such a significant event, the singer offered an emotional a cappella performance of this piece, receiving a long and resounding ovation from the audience.

In this way, an unforgettable night concluded in which "Herederos el Atlántico" once again demonstrated that music is one of the most solid vehicles for preserving, disseminating, and celebrating the identity of a people.

Among the attendees was the councilor for Culture of the Teguise City Council, Andoni Machín, who at the end of the concert shared some moments with musicians and singers to personally congratulate them on the magnificent show offered.

Thus concluded a brilliant program for Canary Islands Day in Teguise, with a concert that lived up to its name and made it clear that the cultural heritage of the Atlantic remains more alive than ever in the hearts of those who feel and defend it from the stage.
