The municipal spokesperson for the PP of Teguise, Jonás Álvarez, has confirmed his party's support for a signature collection initiative that is being carried out through the internet page of change.org , to achieve the placement of a sculpture on the road of the gracioseras as a tribute to the working women of La Graciosa, coinciding with the celebration on March 8 of International Women's Day.
For the Popular Party councillor, “it is a magnificent occasion and a good initiative that values the effort and struggle of several generations of Graciosera women who used the path through El Risco to reach the town of Haría”. “These comings and goings, these ups and downs with baskets on their heads loaded with fish are part of our legacy and our history as a municipality and as an island”, says Jonás Álvarez.
“It seems like a great idea that we have learned directly from the promoters themselves and that we hope can be shared by all the political groups with representation in the Teguise plenary session so that it can be carried out”, the spokesperson points out.
The initiative also seeks the involvement of other institutions such as the Haria City Council, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands.
