Alejandro Ramírez, Sports Councilor of the Teguise City Council, was this Monday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to answer some questions regarding the accusations of Jonás Álvarez, councilor of Primero Teguise, who criticized the council a few weeks ago for "passivity" regarding the delay in the delivery of subsidies to sports clubs.

Regarding the rumors that supposedly Ramírez has been asked to leave his position as Sports Councilor and take another area, he said that "he has conveyed to the Popular Party and Olivia Duque that if they don't want me, they should tell me," he indicates.

"If they move me from the Sports department, I will leave my position as councilor because I have come to work for and for sports, and I have been given the opportunity as an athlete of this municipality and as a teaching coach, and if they don't want me in Sports, they should tell me, I will leave my position and return to what I like most in this world, which is to work for and for sports," he reveals. "If they move me to Commerce or Beaches, Alejandro says goodbye with his head held high," declares Ramírez.

"I have the full support of my family, of an entire sports collective, and I have a human team that is worth its weight in gold to whom I owe myself, I thank them all and I will continue as long as they want me, both the PP and the mayor," he continues.

Problems with sports subsidies

The origin of the dispute arose when Jonás Álvarez, councilor of Primero Teguise, criticized the delay in sports subsidies a few weeks ago. "I can assure you that the subsidies, if we talk about sports schools, have increased from 320,000 to 400,000 euros and last week was the week of allegations and they are going to collect them two months earlier than last year because in 2023 it was in February and I am not going to lie, they were delayed," he affirms.

"I assure you that this year, more than 90% of the entities have collected 25% more than the previous amounts and will collect these items in the coming weeks. We have advanced two months, I am not happy because I would like the entities to collect an amount in the first semester and another in the second," he says.

"One of the things that Jonás Álvarez, of Primero Teguise, points out is to take the subsidies from the sports schools out of the rest of the subsidies, but that was one of the issues that I raised at first, but we have two people working in this area, and we are talking about the councils of Education, Culture, and Sports. If we dedicate a person to what has to do with sports, we leave the other departments lame and I am not going to allow that to happen," says the councilor.

"With the delays in the subsidies, of course I go to bed at night feeling bad and with headaches because I have lived it because my parents also work in a club and it is unpleasant, but the reality is that today the payment of the subsidies is about to fall," he concludes.
