[Rotary Club Lanzarote->http://www.rotarylanzarote.dralvarez.net/] already has a new president, Wolfgang Heilg, a German executive residing in Lanzarote since the 80s who took over the presidency of the Rotarians at a gala dinner that took place this past Saturday at the club's headquarters, at the Hotel Lancelot.
Nearly 150 people attended the event and subsequent gala dinner, which was attended by Rotarians from Germany, the United Kingdom, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, as well as the Tourism Councilor of Lanzarote, María José Docal, and the Councilor of Tourism and Works of the Arrecife City Council, Alberto Morales, among other civil and military authorities.
Rotary Club Lanzarote, founded in 1992, is made up of 40 prominent professionals and entrepreneurs from the island of volcanoes who
develop cultural, solidarity and philanthropic initiatives.
Each year the board of directors is renewed in an act called change of collar. The current president of Rotary Club Lanzarote, the well-known industrialist Antonio Hernández Bolaños, ceded the presidency to Heigl, with more than 30 years in the Rotary movement internationally in Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as one of the precursors of the creation of the Rotary club on the island. In addition, Heigl has been distinguished by Rotary International for his philanthropic contribution and services in various international humanitarian projects.
In addition to Wolfgang Heigl, as president, his board of directors for the next Rotary year will include Abelardo Cervera, head of Internal Medicine at the General Hospital of Lanzarote (as president-elect), Otilia Aguilar Topham, Alfredo Pérez, director of Banjaca for the southern area of Lanzarote (as treasurer); Enrique Suárez, director of Metal Confort (as vice president); the lawyer Rafael Méndez as secretary; the journalist Severino Betancort and the PP councilor in the Cabildo de Lanzarote and businessman, Eugenio Hernández, as macero.
Distinctions
During the gala, different distinctions were given to several members of the [Rotary Club Lanzarote->http://www.rotarylanzarote.dralvarez.net/] for the direct promotion in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands of various humanitarian projects. Among these, they received the highest distinction in Rotary, the [Paul Harris badge->http://www.prensarotaria.com.ar/es/socios_paul_harris_del_club.htm] (founder of Rotary), Ventura Acuña González, Severino Betancort and Marcial Cabrera.
The conejeros Rotarians have undertaken during this year different solidarity projects for the benefit of the Red Cross, [Adislan->http://www.adislan.es/], [El Cribo->http://www.elcribo.org/], [Lanzarote Help->http://www.cafemararia.es/lanzarote_help/] (construction of a shelter in Cameroon) and those affected by the earthquake in Peru, as noted by Antonio Hernández Bolaños during his speech and balance of the year.
