The president of the Association of Artisan Cheesemakers of Lanzarote and owner, in addition, of the award-winning Los Ajaches Cheese Factory, Tito González Medina, has passed away this Tuesday. Married and with three daughters, this master cheesemaker owned a livestock cabin made up of some 200 goats and 100 sheep. For several years, González marketed cheeses from these bovines that he himself made and for whose quality he received the Tabefe 2015 Award at the past Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Fair of Fuerteventura (Feaga).
After learning of his death, the Yaiza City Council, the municipality from which González was a native, wanted to convey its condolences for the "sad" and "unexpected" departure of the master cheesemaker. Similarly, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, has lamented the "irreparable loss for the primary sector of Lanzarote of this master cheesemaker, an example of dedication, professionalism and struggle in the defense of the livestock sector."
San Ginés has thus expressed, on behalf of the institution and his own, his condolences to "family and friends" of the president of the Association of Artisan Cheesemakers of Lanzarote, who was also vice president of the Spanish Network of Rural and Artisan Cheese Factories. The president of the Cabildo has also extended his condolences to "the entire primary sector of Lanzarote" and has highlighted the "sacrificed work" and the "struggle in defense of the livestock sector" of González.
"He worked hard for his people and his land"
In Yaiza, the mayor of the municipality, Gladys Acuña, has also expressed her regret for the "early loss" of this "great entrepreneur who worked hard for his people and for his land", who was also a resident of Playa Blanca.
The southern consistory highlights that it maintained a "close relationship with González in the development of initiatives aimed at favoring the primary sector of Yaiza, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands." "We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, loved ones and all the workers in the primary sector of the islands at a time when we are deeply dismayed by Tito's unexpected departure," the mayor said.
Gladys Acuña has highlighted that the "work" and "vocation of service and quality in the production of products" of the master cheesemaker "elevated the Los Ajaches cheese factory." Acuña recalled that Tito González also stood out as a leader of the primary sector", noting that he collaborated with Yaiza in promoting the twinning between farmers from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura carried out this year and was an "unconditional" of the Uga Livestock Show. "We will miss Tito for being a great friend and a selfless advisor on issues related to the primary sector," concludes the mayor of Yaiza.
