The municipality of Tías has celebrated this Sunday, for the second consecutive year, the pilgrimage in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria, patron saint of the main tourist municipality of Lanzarote. The pilgrimage has been included again in the municipal program at the request of the parish community and the members of the Festival Committee.

The good weather that was recorded in Lanzarote on Sunday morning and midday encouraged many pilgrims to make the walk between the churches of San Antonio, in the center of Tías next to the Central Avenue of Tías, and the temple of La Candelaria, in the area of Las Vistas, almost at the foot of Montaña Blanca.

Several folk groups, including Guágaro and the Gaida Folk Group, both from Tías, Parranda Raíces and Parranda La Hoya de Janubio, joined this pilgrimage accompanying the invited groups: the Folk Groups Coros y Danza, from La Gomera, the musical group Sabor de Gaydes, from Gáldar, the Cabuqueros dance group, from Arucas, from Gran Canaria, to sing and dance before the image of the Virgen de la Candelaria, patron saint of Tías.

These groups from the Canary Islands traveled to Lanzarote this weekend to participate on Saturday night, January 26, in the XII Canary Tenderete La Candelaria 2019, held in the Tías Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez Wrestling Arena, within the program of the festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the councilor of Festivals and Sports, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, participated in the entire route of the pilgrimage, where other councilors of the Municipal Government group also attended.

The parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso, who also made the walk dressed as a pilgrim, thanked the parishioners for the offerings with non-perishable products that will be distributed by the Parish of Tías, through Cáristas. The head of Cáritas in Tías, Flora Eugenio, was also present at the moment when the pilgrims deliver their offerings to the image of the Virgin, at the entrance of the temple.

Different musical groups performed some performances and dances before the image of the Virgen de la Candelaria, in the exteriors of the church declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. After the pilgrimage, the attendees enjoyed an enyesque and the performances of the Parrandas Raíces and La Hoya de Janubio.

The mayor of Tías thanked, on behalf of the Corporation, all the attendees for their participation in this second edition of the pilgrimage that is being consolidated in the program of the festivities of La Candelaria and San Blas.
