The College of Dentists of Las Palmas, acting as a private prosecution, has achieved up to seven convictions against fake dentists in the last year for crimes of intrusion, fraud or injury and maintains another ten open proceedings throughout the province.
This was stated this Wednesday in a statement on the occasion of a new conviction that has been achieved in second instance against a repeat offender, which will lead him to spend nine months in prison according to the sentence ratified by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas on appeal.
This fake dentist practiced his work in a dental clinic of his property in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and had already been convicted in 2021, also with a prison sentence, for a crime of intrusion in the period 2011 to 2015.
In this second conviction, it is established that this same person practiced as a dentistry professional between 2018 and 2020 in a clinic of his property without having the title required for it and knowing the need to have it in order to perform his function.
According to the proven facts of the sentence provided by the professional association, the intruder attended and explored the mouth of an underage patient, carrying out the diagnosis and dictating a dental treatment of orthodontics with brackets, which were placed by himself, actions for which only a dentist is legitimized.
The mother of the minor contacted the College of Dentists of Las Palmas, after learning of the previous conviction, which led the collegiate entity to act as a private prosecution, he explained in the statement.
In addition to the nine months of prison and special disqualification for the exercise of the right to passive suffrage during the sentence, this person is also imposed a compensation of 2,800 euros to the mother of the minor and the payment of costs procesales.
From the College of Dentists of Las Palmas, citizens are urged to inform themselves through the website www.intrusismodentistas.es and check if the person who attends them is really a dental professional.
They also highlight the importance of reporting cases of intrusion.
The president of the College of Dentists of Las Palmas, Francisco Cabrera Panasco, has warned about the "very serious problem" that intrusion poses for this medical specialty, and has appealed to modify the regulations if it is to be ended.
