The festivities in honor of Our Lady of La Candelaria continue in Tías and reach their big day this Wednesday. During the weekend, there were many events that were held in the municipality on the occasion of these festivities.
On Friday night, the singer-songwriter from Gran Canaria, Arístides Moreno, performed at the Municipal Theater. Also, the Plaza de La Candelaria hosted a rock concert, which featured performances by the groups Tareweys, Nauty Boz and Skatoons.
On Saturday, the highlight was the celebration of the IV Canarian Tenderete, in which the Gaida, Charco de San Ginés and Noroeste Guiense de Gran Canaria folk groups performed, which took place at 9 p.m. at the Sociedad Unión Sur. The Plaza de La Candelaria was also the scene of a popular festival, which was enlivened by the Travesía group and the Nuevo Swing orchestra.
On Sunday, at 11 a.m., the XXII Radio Location Contest "Cochino Hunt" took place, organized by the Arrecife Radio Amateurs Union. Later, at 12:30 p.m., the Eucharist was celebrated. In the evening, the group "Tercera Edad de Tías" staged the play "Se me quema el arroz", at the Municipal Theater. Meanwhile, on Monday, this theater hosted the La Candelaria Dance Gala, by the Hanna Falkowska Municipal Dance School.
Upcoming events
The events continue this Wednesday, when Tías will celebrate its big day of the festivities. At 12:30 p.m., the Solemn Function in honor of Our Lady of La Candelaria will take place, with musical accompaniment by the "La Candelaria" choir, and a procession accompanied by the Tías Music Band.
At 4 p.m., the XIV Female and Male Cadet Basketball Tournament will take place, organized by C.D. Magec Tías, in the Municipal Sports Hall. In the evening, the Lila García group will be in charge of staging the play "La abuela echa humo", at 8:30 p.m., in the Municipal Theater.
The events will continue until Saturday, when the festivities will come to an end, with the III La Candelaria Rally, which will begin on Friday afternoon. Before, on Thursday afternoon, the VII Timples Meeting will be held, with the performance of the students of the Tías Municipal Timples School and the artist Toñín Corujo. The event, at 8 p.m., in the Municipal Theater. On Friday, the Isla de Lanzarote Canarian wrestling tournament will also be held, between the teams of Tías and Tao, at 9 p.m., in the Ulpiano Rodríguez Pérez wrestling arena.
