These are the main restrictions that come into force this Friday in Lanzarote

The closure of the island to entries and exits, the extension of the curfew and the prohibition of meetings are the biggest changes, although each one contemplates exceptions

Lanzarote will face new restrictions from this Friday and for at least 14 days, which are added to those already in force. In practice, the main consequence of the island entering alert level 3 will imply the 'closure' of the island to unjustified entries and exits, as well as a greater limitation of movements and meetings, but it will not affect the continuity of commercial and hospitality activity -which will have more restrictions-, nor will it affect classes, which will remain as they are now.

The main restrictions implied by the new level, tightened since last weekend, are the following:

Limitation of entry and exit from the island

Only people who do so for “duly justified” reasons, contemplated in the decree by which the state of alarm was declared, may travel outside Lanzarote or return to the island:

- Assistance to health centers, services and establishments.

- Fulfillment of labor, professional, business, institutional or legal obligations.

- Assistance to universities, educational and teaching centers, including early childhood education schools.

- Return to the place of habitual or family residence.

- Assistance and care for the elderly, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or especially vulnerable people.

- Travel to financial and insurance entities or refueling stations in neighboring territories.

- Required or urgent actions before public, judicial or notarial bodies.

- Renewals of permits and official documentation, as well as other unavoidable administrative procedures.

- Completion of unavoidable official exams or tests.

- Due to force majeure or situation of need.

- Any other activity of a similar nature, duly accredited

Night curfew

The freedom of movement of people is limited at night between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. every day. This means moving forward the start of the curfew by one hour, which since last Monday was already set at 11:00 p.m.

As with entries and exits from the island, it will be possible to leave home at that time for justified reasons, including:

- Acquisition of medicines and health products in pharmacies.

- Assistance to health centers, services and establishments.

- Assistance to veterinary care centers for emergency reasons.

- Fulfillment of labor, professional, business, institutional or legal obligations.

- Return to the place of habitual residence after carrying out some of the activities provided for in this section.

- Assistance and care for the elderly, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or especially vulnerable people.

- Due to force majeure or situation of need.

- Any other activity of a similar nature, duly accredited.

- Refueling at gas stations or service stations, when necessary to carry out the activities provided for in the previous paragraphs.

- Assistance and care of domestic animals or on livestock farms.

Social and family gatherings are restricted

The decree establishes that at alert level 3, the permanence of people in both public and private spaces, closed or outdoors, will be limited to cohabiting people, except in hospitality and restaurants and respecting the maximum number of 4 users per table. This implies that for at least 14 days you will not be able to meet with anyone, unless it is in a bar or restaurant.

New restrictions in bars and restaurants

In accordance with the new time limit established by the curfew, hospitality and restaurant establishments must close before 10 p.m.

In addition, service is prohibited in indoor areas (except in health centers, workplaces for staff consumption and tourist accommodation for the exclusive use of guests), so service must be provided on terraces. The maximum number of diners per table will be four people, and in this case non-cohabitants may meet, as long as they do not exceed that number.

Closure of establishments and gambling and betting venues

At alert level 3, gambling casinos, bingo halls, recreational and gaming rooms, external betting venues and other similar venues and facilities must remain closed.

Indoor sports prohibited and maximum limitations outdoors

At alert level 3, the practice of physical and sports activity in the indoor areas of sports facilities and centers is prohibited. As for outdoor activity, “it can be carried out individually and as long as the interpersonal safety distance of 2 meters can be maintained permanently.”

The decree establishes that team sports or those practices or exercises in which the maintenance of said distance cannot be guaranteed at all times may not be practiced.

Visits prohibited in hospitals and social health centers

In hospitals, external visits are suspended except in the case of minors, pregnant women, accompanying terminal patients and other clinical situations that are considered necessary at the discretion of the physician.

In residences for the elderly, residents' outings outside the centers and external visits are suspended, except in the case of accompanying terminal patients and other situations that are considered necessary at the discretion of the center's management for health reasons. Patients who are confirmed cases with resolved infection will be exempt from this limitation.

Public transport

During curfew hours, only people who accredit travel to carry out essential activities will be allowed to use public transport.

In addition, as had already been established since entering alert level 2, the maximum capacity must be 50%.
