The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, on behalf of the entire municipal corporation and on his own, congratulates all the members of the Sur Caliente group of Tías after winning the third Interpretation Prize in the Comparsas Contest of the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, held last night.
It was the first time that this comparsas contest had the participation of twelve groups, and for the first time also, a comparsa from Lanzarote obtains a prize. The mayor of Tías wanted to express his joy since, "for the first time in the history of the Carnivals of Las Palmas, a comparsa, in this case from the municipality of Tías, not only participates but also takes the third prize, a well-deserved award after so many months of work and rehearsals".
With the fantasy 'The navel of the moon', designed by Oswaldo Machín, the Sur Caliente Group, made up of 50 members, took to the stage of the Santa Catalina Park last night to offer its magnificent show 'Pure Mexico' that did not leave anyone indifferent due to its joy, rhythm and color.
Under the musical direction of Jacobo Cáceres and the choreographer Juan Ramón Martín, the members of the Sur Caliente Group enjoyed the contest very much, while making all the attendees enjoy themselves.
The Sur Caliente Group, whose president is Pedro Vizcaíno, was founded in Puerto del Carmen in 1999, so it has been participating in the Carnival of Lanzarote for 17 years, not only offering spectacular choreographies and contagious rhythms but also providing a lot of fun and joy to our most popular festivals.
Finally, the mayor of Tías, wanted to invite all citizens to participate in the next carnivals of the municipality that are held in Puerto del Carmen from next Thursday, February 11, "and be able to enjoy, live and direct, not only the show of the Sur Caliente Group but also the rest of the carnival groups of the municipality that will perform in a great Gala that will take place on Friday, February 12 in the Plaza del Varadero".
