The Arrecife City Council, through the Departments of Youth and Education, coordinated by Jacobo Lemes and Ascensión Toledo, wanted to congratulate the students and teachers of the Antonio Zerolo Infant and Primary Education School for the recording of a "lipdub" with the song "Conejero". This type of music videos are recorded in a single take and involves a group of people who synchronize their lips, gestures and movements.
The initiative was launched by the 3rd grade teachers during the 2010-2011 school year. It was then that they embarked on a project in which schoolchildren learned about their island, working in an interdisciplinary way in all areas. At the end of June, they already presented part of the work with the presence of the councilors of the areas.
As part of the work, it was decided to create a symbolic song that today has become the anthem of the school, and which is titled "Conejero", the basis of this song has been chosen for the lipdub.
How "Conejero" was born
According to the City Council, the project "Municipalities of my island" needed a song "and it was thought that, taking into account the nickname by which the inhabitants of Lanzarote are known, the protagonist of the lyrics and therefore in charge of uniting all the municipalities of the island, had to be a rabbit".
"The song was so liked by the students of the level that it was wanted to be known to the rest of the students of the center and the faculty. Little by little it has been consolidated and each school year it is worked in all the classes", they point out. The song has also been shared with other centers on the island because, according to the school itself, "our intention is that all our chinijos and chinijas feel it as their own".
From the City Council, Jacobo Lemes reminds young people "that they have infrastructures such as the Youth Center at their disposal, where they can develop new projects like this one." For her part, Ascensión Toledo Hernández highlights "the motivation and creativity of the students in a project that is full of identity, tradition and culture".
