The female batucada Woman Batuca, the only one in the Canary Islands with exclusively female participation, has been designated as the herald of the Arrecife Carnival 2015. This was finally revealed this Wednesday by the Arrecife City Council, which recalls that the inaugural act of the capital's Carnival will be held in the Islas Canarias park on February 7.
The carnival group was founded in 2007 and currently has 22 members, who have participated in both the Lanzarote Carnivals and cultural activities of all kinds, both inside and outside the island's borders.
In recent months, Woman Batuca has been present at the Arrecife Kings parade, the Arrecife Street Art festival and the La Palma Batucada Fest.
Its president, Carmen Machín, has expressed her excitement about the designation, which she considers "an honor and a recognition of Woman Batuca's contribution to the Carnival and of female carnival-goers in general".
