The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, is working to reach a "great agreement in the taxi sector." Valle has met with all the cooperatives in the sector on the island to optimize island mobility and find a solution to current tensions. "This is a line of work connected to the established itinerary to improve the quality of tourism," they point out from the Chamber.
The president of the Chamber assures that a change in the arrival of tourists is detected, who "do so more and more through direct sales and less through tour operators." "This variation implies that mobility tends towards a model based on rental vehicles and public service, so there are demand peaks at certain times, which are seriously affecting the service offered to both tourists and residents." "Tensions in the sector are becoming increasingly evident, for this reason José Valle is leading this great pact," they point out from the entity.
To date, the round of meetings with the cooperatives in the sector has been completed and although the insularization model is ruled out, which failed previously, alternative models are sensed that can offer consensus solutions. “The characteristics are different in each municipality, but we can find joint and favorable measures that serve to promote the sector,” said Valle. The objective to be achieved is that "the transport model moves towards sustainable mobility." To this end, the president of the businessmen has committed to seeking and promoting aid to facilitate the acquisition of electric vehicles in order to reduce environmental pollution. “We have to turn our mobility into a highly efficient ecological service, which allows us to reach the top of quality tourism. We can be a world reference in this regard and the taxi is a fundamental ally to achieve it within our tourism strategy,” he says.
