The artist Jesús Soto, born in Antigua Fuerteventura and declared Adoptive Son of Lanzarote by the Cabildo in 2002, since this Saturday has a permanent exhibition hall that bears his name located in the House of Volcanoes in Jameos del Agua. His widow, Lita Emma Garrido, and seven of his eight daughters, some grandchildren, relatives, friends and also retired employees of the institution such as Marcial Martín and Toñín Ramos were present at the opening ceremony. Workers who were very close to the artist and although they are not in work activity today, they are aware of any movement that is carried out and harms said work.

The event began with a few words from the writer Felix Hormiga, who in 2012 wrote a biographical book about Jesús Soto and which was presented in the municipality of Antigua, the artist's birthplace. At the end of his speech, Hormiga launched a petition with the intention that it reach the ears of the great managers in power so that the "La Destila school, which is now under construction, bears the name of Jesús Soto." Then the floor was taken by the Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, and Pedro San Ginés, President of the Cabildo, both agreed in saying that "justice had been done, settling a debt that was pending with the memory of Jesús Soto and family."

The space dedicated to Jesús Soto consists of 4 zones, in the first you can see the recreation of the cosmos, defined by the passion that Jesús felt for volcanic stones; in the second Jesús Soto experiments with colors and matter in some pictorial pieces with clear reference to the volcano; in the third you can see different scenarios in which Jesús Soto worked during the creation process of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers; and in the fourth visitors can see the recreation of a volcanic grotto with various images of the author on the island of Lanzarote, the space also has a mural that depicts the life and work of the author.

The artist's family, who in their day gave the Cabildo documents, photos, paintings, pictures and trophies, hope that over time they can be exhibited in this newly opened space so that through them they can learn a little more about the life and work that Jesús Soto carried out in Lanzarote.
