The Island Council's Security and Emergency Consortium has launched a new edition of the information, prevention and training campaigns aimed at schoolchildren and teachers from all primary and secondary schools on the island.
The area's councillor, Francisco Aparicio, highlighted the importance of training young people so that they know how to intervene in emergency situations. "It is about transmitting theoretical and practical information in a simple way to know how to act in the face of everyday risks or accidents, which directly affects greater awareness from an early age," said the Island Council representative.
The program for the current 2019-2020 academic year includes the re-edition of each of the seven campaigns that have been developed "successfully" on a regular basis in recent years and which have the collaboration of the Lanzarote Health Area and, in some cases, the Mafre Foundation and the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies.
Programming
The program includes the celebration of the V Self-Protection Campaign for Schools with training for teachers and evacuation drill of the center; the III Preventive Campaign for Choking "SOS Breathe" aimed at schools and establishments in the restaurant sector, in which simple and useful techniques are presented to know how to act in the face of choking and that serve to save a life in a few seconds; and the II Campaign "With your hands you can save a life" where students receive the necessary knowledge to recognize and act in the event of cardiorespiratory arrest through cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques (CPR).
It also includes the II Campaign "Stop Stroke" in which students over 16 years of age and teachers receive keys to react to a stroke where the response time is essential to reduce mortality and the severity of the sequelae of this disease; the II Campaign of PAS Behaviors (Protect, Warn and Help), focused on the protocols to follow in the event of any emergency or everyday accident such as fainting, a fall, traffic accident or a fire.
These activities are complemented by the organization of visits to the Security and Emergency Consortium, to learn about the service of the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group GES and the Fire Station where students will have the opportunity to tour the different facilities (emergency call center, garage, trucks or the place for physical preparation, among others).
The application forms must be completed and sent from the Consortium's website, in the corresponding campaign section.
