The Ecoáreas Mardetodos project has scheduled a day of waste collection on the coastline and seabed of the island of La Graciosa. The initiative, which will take place on September 17, aims to contribute to "the protection of the environment after the summer holidays".

The project is promoted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands and co-financed with European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). The organization reminds that the activity is free and there is a limited number of places available. Interested volunteers must formalize their registration compulsorily through this link.

The Muelle de Órzola and the Muelle de Caleta de Sebo will receive the working groups and the delivery of activity material, respectively, according to the scheduled times. The organization appreciates the collaboration of the Fundación las Líneas Romero, in charge of carrying out the transfer by ferry, covered free of charge.

Around 80 people will carry out cleaning sweeps on four of the beaches of the eighth Canary Island, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The day will be carried out under the supervision of the Marine Litter Observatory of Fuerteventura (OBAM), the team of biologists from WWF and the experience of the Lanzarote Limpia association. The seabed cleaning has the professional and scientific experience of the Federation of Underwater Activities FEDAS, FEDECAS in the Canary Islands, the diving club of La Graciosa and the Pastinaca diving club of the island of Lanzarote.

At the end of the day, the collected waste will be classified and quantified thanks to the collaboration of Martínez Cano and will be registered in the MARNOBA app.

The organization explains that the objective of this alliance is to "be a model that will be repeated in all Ecoáreas, always linked to local agents and organizations and to the technical teams of all the Ecoáreas of the Canary Islands that will attend the activity." As recognition, citizens who participate in the initiative will receive an accreditation diploma.

The General Directorate of Planning and Tourism Promotion, led by Ciprián Rivas, appreciates the citizen involvement in the scheduled session. “Continuing to enjoy paradisiacal environments such as Caleta de Sebo is everyone's business. Reinforcing the Mardetodos badge, of the Ecoáreas project, is one of the main objectives behind actions such as those promoted on the beaches and coastal ecosystems of La Graciosa,” explains Rivas.
