The best drags from the Canary Islands opened the curtain of the Playa Blanca Carnival with a superb show of more than two hours that captivated the large audience gathered this Friday in the town square. The fantasy of nine transvestites, the choreography of the Ballet Dance Pop, the music of the soloist Nakor and the good humor of the presenter Dani Calero, rounded off a luxurious carnival gala.
The cocktail of staging, transgression, music, dance, lights, makeup, costumes, acrobatics and eccentricity, fulfilled, and in what way, the tremendous expectation generated by the presentation of the drags in the southern Carnival.
From the irruption on stage of the drag Anémona, the gala maintained the rhythm until the very end. The succession of fantasies rich in creativity with drags dressed in one way, who dance with absolute mastery of huge platforms while shedding clothes and accessories to characterize another character, is worthy of admiration. The public filled the town square and responded with a resounding ovation.
After the presentation of Anémona, came the performance of the drags: Vulcano, On, Ququi, Ácrux, Noa, who is one of the few drag women, Orion, Eiko and Xoul, winner this year at the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Some solo and others accompanied by a dance group left no doubts about their good work. After several years out of the Carnival program, the Department of Festivities of the Yaiza City Council recovered the Drag Gala last year, a success of the Department led by Javier Camacho.
Dani Calero had the responsibility of presenting the show and he did it wonderfully. His notes full of humor helped to create a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. The presenter dared to propose the election of the best drag of Yaiza, conditioned to the candidates having to come from the public. Well, three volunteers accepted the challenge and after half an hour in the area reserved for artists, they appeared dressed and made up as 'Dragons and Dungeons', 'Spoils Drag' and 'Cochina'. The public enjoyed the parade of the three "discoveries".
Without a doubt, the fantasy of the nine invited drags carried the weight and gave value to the gala, but the performance of the almost thirty dancers of the Ballet Dance Pop, directed by Ruymán Medina, and the interpretation of the singer Nakor also deserve to be highlighted.
