The CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spínola and IES Teguise schools celebrated the solidarity school race Diabletes Race last Friday, promoted by the Unoentrecienmil Foundation against childhood leukemia, which brought together about 800 runners. The funds raised at the event will be used to finance research projects that help find a cure for this disease.

The mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlights that "it is the first time that our municipality hosts this race" and highlights "the need to promote these solidarity activities among schoolchildren. This is a very special occasion to instill in adolescents and children from a very early age values such as empathy, solidarity and sportsmanship." Duque also congratulated all the participants in this race who "have contributed with their donation to this noble cause."

For her part, the Councilor for Education, Mar Boronat, applauds "the magnificent initiative that both schools in our municipality have had to participate in this solidarity race against childhood leukemia. The students learn in this way, in a fun and different way, to give importance to health, sports and the value of research against cancer and other diseases."

The Unoentrecienmil Foundation has been promoting this activity since 2015, which has brought together more than 1.5 million young people with the aim of promoting the fight against this disease. Every year more and more schools are informed and participate in this massive event, which provides fundamental support in research projects.

The first edition of this event has been organized by CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spínola and IES Teguise and has had the collaboration of the Teguise Town Hall.
