To celebrate Canary Islands Day, the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera in Tahíche held a great festival this Wednesday, with a massive pilgrimage that departed at 9:30 a.m. from the educational center to travel the town's central road until reaching the Santiago El Mayor Sociocultural Center.
All students, teachers and relatives participated in the pilgrimage, dressed in typical costumes, who sang Canarian party songs during the tour. This time, four carts decorated with Canarian motifs also participated, which had been made by the students and relatives at the express wish of the teachers.
The carts, pulled by donkeys, powerfully caught the attention of the little ones, since they have less and less the possibility of having so close to this animal that in the past was a companion of the Lanzarote farmer for the tasks of threshing and to transport the products they collected from the field.
When they arrived at the Sociocultural Center, the educational community of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera completely occupied the sports court where, first of all, the students who receive music class with Professor Antonio Monzón performed traditional Canarian songs. Next, the students of the dance class under the direction of Professor Violeta Santos danced different pieces such as the Berlina and the Malagueña among others.
The public, very enthusiastic, rewarded the players and dancers with prolonged applause in each of their performances. The director of the school, Leonor Hernández, very happy for the great involvement of her fellow teachers, members of the Ampa, students, parents and relatives who, with their participation, managed one more year that the Canarian traditions continue to be celebrated with a guarantee of the future, also had words of thanks for the councilors of Education and Culture of the Teguise City Council, Javier Díaz and Olivia Duque, for their collaboration, as well as for the local police and for the owners of the donkeys.
