The assembly hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted the presentation of the Juan Brito Foundation on Friday night.
An event, full to the brim, which was attended by family, friends, neighbors and authorities who accompanied him in such a well-deserved tribute.
The first vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marcos Bergaz, expressed an emotional speech in which he valued the figure of Juan Brito.
"His name will always be linked to the history of the Canary Islands and Lanzarote. A special man, born in Tinajo, with an intense life of 98 years, in which he pursued and achieved most of his dreams. With almost a century of existence, until the last of his days, he demonstrated his deep love for this land."
Bergaz continued stating that "I am sure that his legacy will continue, for the good of present and future generations. Generations that will know the good work of who left with the admiration of his people, who are all the children of this land. He said goodbye to earthly life accompanied by the timple of Domingo "el Colorao", an illustrious majorero where there are any, and his historic Saranda Campesina, all island anthem."
The event was also attended by the Minister of Culture, Alberto Aguiar, and several councilors of the first institution.
Biography
It should be remembered that Juan Brito was Gold Medal of the Canary Islands, Favorite Son of Lanzarote, Honorary Puppy by the Order of the Canarian Puppy of Lanzarote, Pancho Lasso Medal, Rabbit of the Year by Rotary Club, Silver Volcano of Acatife or founder of the group "Los Campesinos", among other distinctions.
To which we must add the authorship of more than 1000 couplets, being a promoter of our traditions, craftsman, ecologist, folklorist and self-taught, for greater merit.
