The rain that fell on Wednesday morning has led Education to have to suspend the Infant classes at the Ajei School in San Bartolomé and to evict the CEIP María Auxiliadora in Montaña Blanca "due to the flooding of the patios" of both centers.

In the case of the Ajei school, according to what has been specified by the Government of the Canary Islands, "the rain exceeded the capacity of a drain" and "forced the closure of the Infant classroom building." Classes had already started, so, according to what has been explained by Education, the students were "accommodated in the rest of the center's classrooms, until their tutors could come and pick them up."

For his part, the deputy mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, has stated that "the classrooms were in optimal condition", so he does not believe "that there was an emergency." However, he has pointed out that he "respects" the decision of Education, although he has criticized that the Government of the Canary Islands "did not decree the alert situation in Lanzarote" in advance. "It did not activate the alert and it caught us off guard," he complained.

As for the CEIP María Auxiliadora in Montaña Blanca, a unitary school, the patio was also flooded, which "led to the decision to evacuate the center," they have pointed out from the Government of the Canary Islands.
