Lanzarote has registered six new Covid outbreaks in the last week, according to the Ministry of Health. Of the six outbreaks, one corresponds to the Insular Hospital, which affects three people, two patients and one family member. Another is from a restaurant that has 19 affected and another corresponds to the educational field with four positives.

As for the Canary Islands as a whole, 44 new outbreaks have been registered in the last week, which represents a new decrease compared to those notified seven days ago, which were 62. This decrease is in line with the trend of decreasing the Accumulated Incidence (AI) throughout the Archipelago and the decrease in daily cases.

To the 44 new outbreaks are added those that remain under follow-up, which are 20, counting those that have been closed and those that are added from the previous week. In total, the new outbreaks add up to 211 associated cases, 122 less than those notified last week.

Of these, 21 have occurred on the island of Gran Canaria (19 less than the previous week); eleven in Fuerteventura (four more less than last week); six in Lanzarote (one more than the previous week); five in Tenerife (four less than last week); and one in El Hierro.

By areas, 16 family outbreaks linked to different homes, ten social, eight work-related, seven from socially vulnerable groups, and two educational outbreaks with family ramifications in both cases have been reported, of which one occurred in Gran Canaria and has five cases and the other in Lanzarote with four positives. In addition, there has been a health outbreak, at the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote, which affects three people, two patients and a family member.

Most of the outbreaks have less than 10 cases except for three that have 10 or more cases, of which the largest is an outbreak of social origin, with family and work ramifications, related to a restaurant in Lanzarote and affecting 19 people. The next two largest occurred one in socially vulnerable groups in Fuerteventura, with 13 affected, and another in the social sphere with family ramifications in Tenerife, with 12 associated cases.

Characteristics of outbreaks by area

This week, family outbreaks, with a total of 16, are the most numerous, although they have less than 10 associated cases, except for the ramifications described above.

Next in number are those linked to the social sphere, where the trend remains that these are outbreaks with fewer associated cases and mostly with between three and five affected, although two of the outbreaks with more than 10 cases are of a social nature.

Regarding the eight work-related outbreaks, the same pattern of few associated cases is repeated, the most numerous being two notified in Gran Canaria, both with five affected, one on a ship and the other in an office, the latter with family ramifications. The outbreaks are distributed among companies in tourist establishments (1), restaurants (1), home care (1), cargo ships (2) and office (2), among others.

The outbreaks related to socially vulnerable groups are seven, nine less than the previous week, and all have a direct relationship with the arrival of cayucos or pateras with positives on board. Of these, four are in Fuerteventura, two in Gran Canaria and one in Lanzarote.

Of the outbreaks under follow-up, one educational outbreak with family ramifications in Lanzarote stands out, which already accounts for 36 associated cases and another of social origin with family ramifications in Gran Canaria, which already has 26 affected.
