The Tenerife multiplexes hosted a face-to-face gala of the Cinedfest 8 festival, which this year did have flesh-and-blood spectators, respecting all the sanitary measures, to present the awards for the 2020/2021 film course in the Secondary, Baccalaureate and FP-CEPA-EOI-EASD category. In total, 270 students attended, distributed in three cinema halls.
The morning gala, presented by journalist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, began at 11:00 am and lasted for three and a half hours. The interventions of students, teachers and public officials followed one another, some to thank for the awards and others to present them.
The first secondary school script award went to the Lanzarote center IES Yaiza, specifically Ada Díez won it for "Invisible".
María Isabel Bello (insular director of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife) was responsible for announcing that "My dream, to study cinema" is the work most valued by the jury for being the film that has best captured the spirit of the Educational Festival of the Canary Islands. "Cinema is culture and culture is education. Education is a pillar of society and Cinedfest does a commendable job in this sense, creating creative seeds in students," she commented. "My dream, to study cinema", from IES Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) is a film that reflects on the illusions of a student in an environment that is not favorable to him. This intimate piece, directed and starring Shijie Weng, will be distributed for one year in international festivals by Digital 104. "There are things that seem far away, but if you try hard they get closer like the Cinedfest Grand Prize," said an emotional Shijie Weng.
Rest of the awards
The awards followed one another. In Baccalaureate, the first prize, presented by María Isabel Bello, was won by "Hanging by a thread", from IES Santa Ana (Tenerife) which, in a key of intrigue, reflects on the labor future.
While in FP-CEPA-EOI-EASD, the award was won by "Liberarte", from EASD Fuerteventura, which delves into a video game and shows different animation techniques. The award was presented by Gregorio José Cabrera Déniz, general director of Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.
For its part, Sara Mateos Artiles (director of the DISA Foundation) presented the DISA Foundation award to "Compass", from IES La Mareta (Lanzarote). While Rubens Ascanio, Councilor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City of La Laguna, presented the three Enclave awards to IES Alonso Pérez Díaz (La Palma), Asociación Horizonte and IES José María Pérez Pulido (La Palma). And the brand new Senior Citizens award to "Something more than letters", from CEPA San Cristóbal (Tenerife).
The brand new Teaching award went to José Francisco López, for his work at IES Laboral: "I am very proud that our students have presented 209 short films in the 8 years of Cinedfest. Cinema is a team effort," he commented.
Student Paula Rodríguez, from IES Puerto de la Cruz - Telesforo Bravo, will be benefited with a film production course from the Ápice school. Likewise, the first Higher Degree in Advertising Graphics of EASD Fernando Estévez, will enjoy a digital grading course from the Higher School of Technical Studies (ESETEC). The student Kilian Hernández Ramos, from IES Puerto De la Cruz-Telesforo Bravo, as winner of the Creating Cinema award will enjoy a film course. Finally, a student from EA Manolo Blahnik will obtain a scholarship to study the first year of the film degree as winner of the UAM training award.
