Puertos Canarios launched the new passenger terminal at the Port of Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, on Tuesday morning. The area, which reports to the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, is headed by José Gilberto Moreno.
“It is unacceptable that a project that was completed in January 2023, which is so necessary for the passengers who frequent this port on a daily basis, is not yet fully operational,” denounced the Vice-President of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, who attributes this "delay" to the fact that the previous rulers “were unable to launch a completed project.”
With this launch, the last phase of the expansion project of the Port of Playa Blanca begins, the purpose of which has been to improve the safety of the port and the services provided, reorganizing the inner harbor, intended for fishing and sports use, and executing a new outer harbor, in which to develop port operations related to passenger ship traffic with greater guarantees and comfort.
The launch of the expanded port immediately produced a greater offer of routes between Playa Blanca and Corralejo.
In this sense, this new terminal will allow for a more efficient organization of traffic and provide better services to passengers, with a new 1,800 square meter maritime station, with two commercial premises, a new toilet block and a restaurant. Likewise, the different port operators will begin to provide service from today in the five offices fitted out in this new terminal.
This improvement of the facilities seeks to reinforce the role of the ports of the Archipelago, making them more competitive enclaves and promoting the creation of opportunities, as well as the economic and social development of the islands.
