The end of summer festivities in Playa Honda ended on Sunday with the burning of fireworks after a weekend full of events for all audiences.
The events held over the weekend began with a snack for the elderly of the municipality, who enjoyed performances by Borrón y Cuenta Nueva and Los Salineros de la Hoya. The final of the "El Cuartito" Canarian Ball Meeting was also held, with "very good atmosphere and participation" throughout the two evenings that the championship lasted. The triplet formed by César, Amararico and Jeremías were the winners, with Octavio, Jose and Luis coming in second place and Clemente, Francisco and Benasco in third place. Folklore was also present with the Parrandehonda, with attendees enjoying the performances of El Golpito and Son del Norte.
On Saturday, the I Water Festival 'Enchúmbate' was celebrated "in style" on the Guacimeta esplanade, which began with artisan painting workshops, kite workshops and Guiñoles theater, included within the HondaMolonda program. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Wind Festival was held, which included a kite exhibition and children's entertainment with giant aquatic inflatables on Guacimeta beach. In addition, starting at 11:30 a.m., a parade with batucada took place from the old part of the Avenue, continuing with Fiestón de la Espuma.
The most current music came from the hand of Ale Ossorio Dj, while attendees were able to enjoy the "largest slide in Europe" and a giant pool with slides. At 3 p.m. and with "great expectation", the Los Salvapantallas concert arrived.
From 5:00 p.m. onwards, the performances of the dj's Josep Peibol and Álvaro Guerra, producer of 'Pa que lo bailen en la disco' with Dasoul and Adrián Rodríguez, actor in 'Física y Química' and participant in television programs such as 'Tu cara me suena' and 'Supervivientes', closed the day the Dj Pana. Likewise, the III Edition of the Cyclist Criterium was held in the Industrial and Commercial Park of Playa Honda.
Jazz on the avenue
On Sunday, September 30, as a culmination to the festivities, at 6:00 p.m. the Sun, Sand & Jazz Concert took place with a performance by guitarist Yarel Hernández and the Atlantic Jazz Orchestra, together with singer Fran León, directed by Natanael Ramos, in the old part of the Avenue (Princesa Ico). This initiative has been promoted and created by the Atlantic Laboratory of Jazz and New Musics with the sponsorship of the Island Circuit of Music, Theater and Dance of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Festival Area of San Bartolomé. The festive program concluded with fireworks, thus putting an end to the Playa Honda 2018 End of Summer Festivities.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, has celebrated the "great neighborhood involvement" in all the events, as well as "the participation of groups, associations, clubs, companies, entities and institutions that have collaborated to ensure that each event could be carried out and close some parties in which audiences of all ages have enjoyed the numerous programmed events." Similarly, Corujo has thanked "the effort made by the festival area delegated to María Dolores Fernández, and all the municipal workers, security forces and neighbors who have made these celebrations possible".
