The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is already in Lanzarote, where he has started his vacation with his family.
As he did two years ago, Sánchez is staying at the La Mareta residence, where he arrived at approximately 1 p.m. this Wednesday. There, in addition to the media, a neighbor was waiting for his arrival with a banner welcoming the president.
The La Mareta residence, located in Costa Teguise, was donated in 1989 to the now emeritus king, Juan Carlos I, by King Hussein of Jordan, although it later passed into the hands of the National Heritage. The current king, Felipe VI, who as a prince also stayed there with his wife, decided later to put it "at the service of the tourist interests of Spain."
In addition to Sánchez himself, who in 2018 already enjoyed the Christmas holidays with his family in La Mareta, other presidents of Spain have also used this residence. The last one was José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who later continued to spend his holidays on the island and acquired a home in Famara, although José María Aznar had already done so before.
