The Union of Nursing Technicians (SAE) has made a call "to the individual responsibility" of the population before the arrival of the weekend, so that "the scenes of parties and crowds of people in the street without any type of prevention are not repeated: neither distance, nor masks, having fun...".
"The end of the state of alarm does not mean that the virus is over and that in hospitals there are not thousands of Spaniards suffering from the virus and many others in their homes trying to recover from the after-effects after having passed Covid-19", the union points out.
For the SAE, it is an "excellent piece of news" that the number of vaccinated people is increasing, but it warns that "it does not mean at all that the risk has been eliminated". "We professionals are literally exhausted and there is no way, despite personal efforts, to recover both physical and emotional strength, and seeing scenes like those of last weekend generates fear and distrust in the face of the uncertainty of a new rebound in cases," they add.
“We don't want new waves, or little waves. We want to be able to return, like the rest of the population, to normality, and to be able at some point to recover physically and emotionally from what a year of pandemic has meant, from facing very difficult situations”, says the general secretary of the Union of Nursing Technicians (SAE), Mª Dolores Martínez Márquez.
In the opinion of the union, "rationally there is nothing that justifies the same mistakes: neither age, nor the desire for parties, nor the confinements...". "It is simply and plainly irresponsibility, they point out from the SAE, from where they therefore appeal "to the individual responsibility of all".
"As citizens we understand and share the need to return to the new normality as soon as possible, but we are professionals, we have experienced it first-hand and, simply, we cannot allow an increase in cases”, concludes the general secretary of SAE.
