The Víctor Fernández Gopar Theater “El Salinero” hosted the seventh edition of the Lanzarote School Theater Festival from May 13 to 16, a project promoted by the Culture Area of the Cabildo, chaired by Oswaldo Betancort, which has once again brought together students, teachers and families around the performing arts as a means of communication and shared growth.
A total of 3,598 people attended the performances, including family audiences and students from 28 educational centers throughout the island, consolidating this event as one of the most participatory and lively on the island's cultural and educational calendar.
The Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, has highlighted the transformative nature of the festival. “What happens on this stage is much more than theater, it is an opportunity for young people to listen to each other, understand each other and express their concerns through creation,” said the councilor.
During the four days of the festival, pieces were performed that addressed issues of enormous social relevance, such as mental health, technological dependence, care for the environment, building self-esteem, or the importance of music and art in people's lives.
All the stories presented were the result of a collective creation process within the classroom, reflecting experiences and perspectives of the students themselves. The result was genuine stage proposals, developed from emotional involvement and group work.
The Lanzarote School Theater Festival is a meeting point for the educational community, where the performing arts not only have an artistic dimension, but also a pedagogical and social one. The project will continue to evolve in future editions, with the purpose of continuing to nurture the expression, imagination and critical sense of the youngest generations.
