Margarita Páez Guadalupe, better known as Margarona, has received the "Conejera of the Year" award from the Rotary Club of Lanzarote for her "dedication, courage and own initiative" for the development of La Graciosa and for it to become the eighth island of the archipelago in 2018.

The Rotary Club award has been recognizing people or entities for 28 years who have worked with a vocation of service to improve society in both Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The president of the Rotary Club of Lanzarote, María Dolores Novás, presented the award, a sculpture by the Lanzarote artist Paco Curbelo, at the El Marinero Restaurant in La Graciosa, which hosted the event.

Margarona's name will also be part of the commemorative plaque of this award, located on Avenida Fred Olsen in Arrecife.

Relevant award winners since the foundation of the award have been, among others, artists such as César Manrique, Jesús Soto, Antonio Corujo and Santiago Alemán.

The award has also been received by prominent personalities in Lanzarote society in other sectors such as the Días Rijo brothers, Román the practitioner, Nicolás de Paiz, Quino Pérez or Dor Julio Santiago.
