John Morales, the legend of the turntables of the mythical New York Studio 54, lived up to his reputation and on Friday night made the nearly 500 unconditional fans of disco music who came to Jameos del Agua enjoy themselves. His performance put the finishing touch to the III edition of Jameos Music Festival, an initiative organized by the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo de Lanzarote with the collaboration of Conexión Canarias.
"It has been an incredible night", "amazing" and "memorable" were some of the adjectives that the attendees used at the end of this event, according to the organizers. "John Morales fulfilled the promise made hours before, recovered one of the original uses of the Center as a unique dance floor in the world, and made many return to their homes after having lived a unique night", they add.
Before Morales got behind the turntables, the Dj's Blue lights in the basement, who confessed that they will never play in a place like this in their entire lives, Viktor Flores, Mr. Paradise and the Vj GVisual had heated up the temperature of the dance floor with their mixes and original, intense, fresh stagings with very high doses of creativity.
Manrique, Warhol and Studio 54
The last session of the III edition of Jameos Music Festival came from one of the most prolific disco music artists in history, both in number of sessions held since he began his career in the 70s, as for the productions that bear his signature. Alone or as part of the duo M&M, John Morales has produced songs for artists as important as The Fantastic Aleems, Jocelyn Brown, The Temptations and The Rolling Stones.
Morales, Dj of the prestigious and mythical New York Studio 54, made the 500 attendees in Jameos vibrate with his rhythms and mixes inspired by funk and disco, with reminiscences of house, some of which continue to be anthems. "As an anecdotal nod, it is worth mentioning that the presence of John Morales in Jameos del Agua closes a curious circle since Andy Warhol, companion and friend of César Manrique during his stay in New York, was a regular at Studio 54 itself", point out from the Centers.
John Morales said goodbye to the public around 04.30 am. Meanwhile, the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo de Lanzarote are beginning to prepare the IV edition of Jameos Music Festival, according to them, "with the difficult challenge of surpassing the artistic and musical level of the recently completed one".
