The NGO Emergencias y Rescate en Lanzarote (Emerlan) carried out a total of 1,744 interventions on the island in 2013, which represents an increase of 20 percent compared to 2012. The actions increased especially in maritime rescues and assistance on the beaches, as reported through a statement.
The NGO has thanked the people of Lanzarote and the media for the support provided last year. Emerlan will continue with its staff training plan and with the improvement of materials and units, as well as the start of various projects to "increase the quality" of the service offered by the NGO for more than 11 years in Lanzarote.
