The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has reinforced the Pelvic Floor Unit with various therapeutic strategies, with the aim of carrying out surgical interventions with advanced techniques that comprehensively address pathologies such as urinary incontinence and genital organ prolapse in women.
The Gynecology service of the Lanzarote hospital has implemented this new consultation with specialist pelvic floor physicians, allowing the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of a large number of pathologies related to the weakness of the muscles in the lower part of the pelvis. The unit offers comprehensive care to patients, in which, when deemed necessary, experts in various areas of health participate.
Since its launch in April 2024, this unit has conducted a total of 440 consultations, with the most common pathologies being urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse (bladder, uterus, rectum descent), postpartum care, and chronic pelvic pain.
Surgical Interventions with Advanced Techniques
During the month of March, the Gynecology and Obstetrics specialists performed various surgical interventions with advanced techniques. For these initial cases, the center's professionals had the collaboration of urogynecologist Lluís Amat i Tardiu, a leading specialist in the treatment of urinary incontinence and genital organ prolapse, who has developed his career in Barcelona and has more than thirty years of experience.
Together with Dr. Amat, the Molina Orosa team shared several days and training sessions on surgical techniques and therapeutic strategies to comprehensively address these pathologies, in order to improve the quality of life of patients.
The Gynecology service points out that these training days, with pioneering specialists at the national level, are an opportunity to update and perfect the knowledge and skills of the professionals at Molina Orosa and reinforce the Hospital's commitment to the forefront of medical care.

Comprehensive Approach
The Pelvic Floor Unit works with a comprehensive approach in the diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of pelvic floor disorders and is committed to innovation and collaboration between professionals from different areas such as gynecologists, urologists, coloproctologists, rehabilitation specialists, and physiotherapists, among others, in order to design personalized treatment plans that address both the physical and emotional aspects of each patient.
The professionals who attend this unit have trained with professionals from reference hospitals and continue to do so with specialists in the field of urogynecology to continue raising the standards of care.
