The Department of Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, led by Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio, has designed a program of events to commemorate Canary Islands Day, which will take place in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park in the capital of Lanzarote, on May 29, 30 and 31.

With the motto chosen this year, “Remember what unites us. On Canary Islands Day, don't come in your swimsuit”, the Festivities Area is launching a clear message in favor of respect for roots, traditions, culture and typical clothing, on this special date.

“We want these days to be a tribute to what we are, to what has defined us for generations. Canary Islands Day is not just a festive day, it is an opportunity to reconnect with what unites us: our customs, our music, our gastronomy and our pride in being Canarian. We invite everyone to experience it with the respect and joy it deserves,” says Echedey Eugenio.

The carefully designed program will feature a varied offer of traditional and cultural activities for all audiences. Among the most outstanding events is the Gastronomic Fair, which will have 14 stalls and will be open on Thursday, May 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and on May 30 and 31, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

On the big day, May 30, attendees will be able to enjoy an exhibition and tasting of coastal noodles, one of the most representative dishes of traditional Canarian cuisine, as well as take interpreted boat trips through the Arrecife marina.

From the 29th, dominoes, betting and canasta tournaments will also begin, traditional games that are part of Canarian popular culture and that will have a prominent space during these days.

In the musical section, the program will bring together great names from the Canarian scene. On the 30th, Los Gofiones will perform, one of the most emblematic groups of island folklore, as will Los Sabandeños, who will perform on Saturday the 31st, the day that Cristina Ramos and Efecto Pasillo will also take to the stage, putting the finishing touch to three days of celebration.

In addition, throughout the program there will be the presence of traditional parrandas and groups such as Gorfines, Aldaba, Los Labradores, Teguey, Son del Norte, Los Buches, Bourbon and La Edad de Oro.

The deputy mayor has insisted that “these are events full of Canarian identity, designed to be shared with family, between neighbors and with those who visit us. But above all, they are a space to reaffirm our culture and our pride in being Canarian.”

Thus, the capital's head of Festivities also invites the entire population to actively participate in the festival and to dress in traditional clothing as a symbol of respect and belonging.
