Correos has reminded citizens that people who have requested to vote by mail and wish to receive the documentation at a different address can request its forwarding to another address at any office, providing the registration number of the shipment, which can be obtained on the Electoral Census website. In this way, those who have requested to vote by mail but have not received the ballots before going on a trip can modify the location, but they must do so with enough time for their documentation to arrive.
The Provincial Delegations of the Electoral Census Office began sending the electoral documentation on July 3, except in the provinces where there has been a challenge to candidacies where the distribution has begun once they have been resolved, and they have until July 16 to deliver the documentation to Correos.
As in previous processes, Correos is delivering this documentation to voters as it receives it from the Electoral Census, so that applicants can vote by mail as soon as possible.
The deadline to apply for voting by mail, online from the web or in person at any Correos office, remains open until July 13. The deadline to deposit the vote by mail ends on July 20.
The procedure for delivering the electoral documentation and requesting the forwarding of the documentation to another address if desired is recalled.
Hand delivery of electoral documentation and forwarding
After verifying the registration of mail-in voting applicants in the census, the Provincial Delegations of the Electoral Census Office send the shipments with the electoral documentation (certificate of registration in the census, envelopes and ballots of all candidacies) to the address indicated by the voter in the application, with certified and urgent character. These shipments may be made by the Census until July 16.
The Correos postman or postwoman will make at least two delivery attempts of this documentation in person to the recipient, leaving a notice for them to pick it up at the nearest office if it has not been possible to deliver it.
To make the delivery, Correos personnel will verify the identity of the voter by means of the ID card, Passport or Driving License and will record the number of the identification document, attesting to the receipt of the envelopes and ballots with the signature of the delivery by the applicant.
How to request that the electoral documentation be forwarded to another address
Once the Electoral Census Office (OCE) has sent the electoral documentation to the address indicated by the applicant, the Central Electoral Board allows the forwarding of that electoral documentation to other addresses, provided that there is an express request from the voter.
For example, if a person has requested to receive the electoral documentation at one address and has to leave before receiving it, they can carry out this procedure at any computerized Correos office, being mandatory for them to provide the registration number of the electoral documentation they wish to forward, which can be obtained at the following address of the OCE.
You can request that the documentation be forwarded to another address or to another Correos office. In any case, it is important that the voter takes into account that they must request such forwarding with sufficient time for Correos to get their documentation to the new address.
Correos has adopted all the necessary organizational measures for the correct development of the activities entrusted to it during the electoral processes and for the management of voting by mail. Among them, extensions of hours and reinforcements are being applied both in distribution and in customer service in offices, especially in areas where a greater influx is expected.
Given the coincidence with the summer period, the celebration of holidays in different localities of Spain and the increase registered in the number of applications for voting by mail, citizens who wish to exercise their right to vote by mail are recommended not to wait until the last day and to take advantage of the extended hours of the postal offices. The company makes this call to expedite the procedures and avoid waiting due to the high influx expected in its offices.
