The secretary of the Trade Union Confederation (CCOO), Vanesa Fraija, has described the past year 2022 as a period "with a lot of work and collective bargaining" and "tremendous", at the level of mobilizations.
Fraija has indicated that although it has been complicated, on November 4, 2022, the signing of the hotel agreement in Lanzarote was achieved, after 34 mobilizations led by the organization: "It has cost us, but we have reached an agreement that, although it may not please everyone, is one of the best to close the cycle of workers who have had such a bad time for years."
Thanks to this agreement, stability has been achieved in the sector and an increase in wages has been achieved, in collaboration with the labor reform promoted at the state level.
In this way, 2022 closed with 8,907 unemployed in Lanzarote, a figure that, although in Fraija's opinion is "worrying", is contrasted with the 62,025 contracts signed (half of them indefinite).
"We have managed to set a good pace of hiring in 2022, which we must perpetuate and continue to improve during this year," said the representative of CCOO.
In 2023, for the trade agreement
Looking ahead to 2023, CCOO has set new challenges, among which priority will be given to signing an agreement for the trade sector.
Since 2019, "thousands of colleagues who work in this field continue to not have a firm agreement", explains Fraija, and details that this translates into being affected by a wage freeze.
"The people of Lanzarote do want to work, but not under precarious conditions and with a miserable salary for 20, 30 and up to 40 hours of work, which does not allow them to cover their transportation and even access a rental."
Therefore, in this new year that begins, it is essential to "fight to achieve a fair agreement", concludes the union secretary.
