Canal Gestión Lanzarote has reported that the two drinking water production centers, Díaz Rijo and Janubio, and the four treatment plants they house, have suffered the "total stoppage" of their activity on Wednesday morning, as a result of a power outage.

The company has indicated that this situation has caused that for almost an hour, the production of drinking water has been non-existent; which added to the high consumption demand that is registered in these last days of August on the island, "has caused the storage levels of the regulating tanks to have dropped drastically, being at very low levels right now."

Once the electricity has returned to the supply system, the company assures that "it has immediately started the start-up maneuvers of the desalination plants." However, at this time, they affirm that "there are several technical difficulties that are being detected, causing the operation of the plants to slow down."

In this way, Canal Gestión Lanzarote communicates that some population centers of the island "may suffer shortages in the hours of this afternoon."
