Calor y Café will organize a solidarity day at the Arrecife market, which will consist of buying books in exchange for food for the neediest. Although the event will take place next Saturday, October 26, the association is already collecting books, the result of donations, which will be exchanged for "cans of cola-cao, sausages or tomato sauce", according to the president of the group, Sor Ana, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
Sor Ana pointed out that, unfortunately, sometimes "solidarity falls short". "When people think of the neediest, they bring food such as rice, pasta or lentils to fill their stomachs. But families with children also need other things, such as cans of cola-cao, or other products that we don't have for everyone," she said.
Calor y Café will undertake this campaign to alleviate how "difficult" the month of September is for many parents, because "schools start and there are many needs that a child has now and everything requires money." Therefore, with this collection of books in good condition, of "children's literature and novels, not school books", as Sor Ana clarified, it is intended to carry out an exchange that helps the most needy families.
"A book will have a price but instead of being economic, you will have to pay for a can of cola-cao or a can of sausages. You take a book and contribute merchandise," explained the president of Calor y Café. Sor Ana has the help of the Playa Honda neighborhood association, which has already placed a box to collect books in the health center of this town and also in the San Bartolomé Town Hall.
In addition, those interested in this campaign can also deposit their books at the Lanzarote Teachers' Center, the Sociedad Democracia and the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, which have also joined this solidarity initiative.
