Calls from women victims of violence have increased in October of this year in Lanzarote. This is revealed by data from the Canary Islands Institute of Equality, published in the Lanzarote Data Center. A total of 125 calls have been registered, compared to the 95 that were attended in September of this year.
Despite the growth this month, October has not exceeded the calls registered in July and August, when 128 and 147 requests for assistance were attended, respectively. Specifically, the most frequent reason for reporting is physical violence without sexual assault suffered by women on the island, where 62 alerts were created, after that, the second most common reason is non-physical violence.
Thus, on eight occasions, consultations were made to the Assistance Service for Women Victims of Violence on 112 and two were calls for coordination.
In this line, of the 125 actions during the month of August, 70 of them were emergencies, where there was an imminent danger to the lives of women. About thirty of them were subjective situations that required attention and 25 to request information.
Complaints by municipalities
Among the municipalities of Lanzarote, Arrecife registers a greater number of calls, with 76 attentions during the month of October. After the capital of Lanzarote, 14 were made from Teguise, 12 from Yaiza and a dozen from San Barolomé. In the case of Tinajo and Haría, each of the two municipalities made a single call.
In addition, Lanzarote is the third island of the Archipelago with the most requirements for gender violence, only behind Tenerife (797) and Gran Canaria (644). In total in the Archipelago the Assistance Service for Women Victims attended 1,746 people.
