The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) insists on its request to increase the operational staff of the Maritime Service of the Benemérita in the Canary Islands and the creation of a new detachment in Lanzarote.

"It is unacceptable that the agents stationed in Corralejo have to cover the nearly 600 kilometers of coastline that the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa have," the union insisted in a statement. "For various reasons, the Fuerteventura Maritime Detachment currently only has 50% of its staff operational," he added.

At the same time, the union has expressed its concern about the new "imposed" working day, which it describes as an "abuse" and "failure", as well as that "it has had alarming consequences on the staff." In this sense, it asserts that 50% of the members of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard remain on leave "due to working conditions."

At the same time, they have requested that it is "necessary to increase" the number of agents and boats in Gran Canaria. "The agents of the Provincial Maritime Service, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, or the agents of Tenerife, who have 700 kilometers for all the islands of that province, monitor 236 kilometers of coastline," the union denounced.
