The Beaches Department of the Arrecife City Council has reopened El Reducto beach, in the capital of Lanzarote, after receiving the Public Health report from the Canary Islands Government certifying that the water quality is optimal for bathing.
Since yesterday at noon, after receiving the Health report, the green flag was raised on El Reducto beach. The City Council adopted this preventive measure last Thursday in response to the request from Public Health of the Canary Islands Government, advising against bathing in these waters.
The City Council activated the established protocol and advised against bathing on this beach as a preventive measure.
An underwater emissary in the area under the responsibility of the Consortium and Canal Gestión
The sanitary samples, which advised against bathing, were taken last Thursday, the day on which different sewage networks were flooded, the responsibility and maintenance of which lies with the Water Consortium and Canal Gestión.
According to the City Council, an underwater emissary is located in the El Reducto area, and last week there was heavy rainfall due to the Garoé storm. One of the affected areas was El Reducto beach.
Canal Gestión Lanzarote has been assigned the responsibility for maintaining the Arrecife sewage network, as well as other municipalities in Lanzarote. That is why the Water Consortium oversees compliance with this maintenance and cleaning of the entire Consortium and Canal Gestión network.
