The Governing Council of the Canary Islands has once again reviewed the alert levels of each island this Thursday, but the decision is that they will all continue as they were. In the case of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, they will remain at level 2 for another week, together with Gran Canaria, El Hierro and Tenerife, which was the last to drop from level last Tuesday. For their part, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and La Palma will remain at level 1.
“The measures taken after Easter Week have yielded results,” defended the president, Ángel Víctor Torres, referring to the improvement that has been recorded in the two capitals, which is where the cases soared the most at the beginning of April.
In this regard, he pointed out that there is “a downward trend in infections” in the archipelago and stressed that the cumulative incidence at 7 days is below 50, which is the limit established by countries such as Germany to authorize tourist travel.
“We don't have to change absolutely anything. The measures are giving results”, Torres stressed, thus defending why they understand that it is necessary to continue with these same restrictions from Sunday, when the state of alarm comes to an end.
However, this traffic light system, with rules adapted to the level in which each island is located, will from that day be in the hands of the courts. And it is that although the Canarian Government already has announced a decree that will be published this Friday and will enter into force in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday, it must receive the endorsement of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.
