Santiago Cruz Díaz, a student of Informatics and Communication at IES César Manrique, has become one of the 16 students from the Canary Islands to obtain the Extraordinary FP Award. Although this award corresponds to the past school year, this Thursday the awards have been made "official" with their publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).
In total, 16 students from 13 Secondary Education institutes who completed their studies last year have obtained the Extraordinary Vocational Training Award in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. Obtaining this award gives them the option of competing for the National Vocational Training Award.
The award represents a "recognition of merits based on effort and work, after brilliantly completing their Higher Grade Specific Vocational Training studies." In order to participate in the call for these annual awards, the arithmetic average of all the modules studied must be a score equal to or greater than 8.5 points.
Awards created in 2002
The Extraordinary Vocational Training Awards in the Canary Islands were created by an Order of the then Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, dated December 3, 2002, and are awarded annually. An Extraordinary Award may be granted for each professional family.
The awards are granted based on the academic record, any other academic or professional merits, as well as the result of the tests deemed pertinent. In order to carry out the evaluation of the merits, as well as the tests deemed appropriate, a Selection Jury is constituted, which is chaired by an Education inspector and four members chosen from specialists in the subjects covered by the call.
Along with this young man, Irene Lastra Fenutria (Agricultural), Saray Quintana de la Fe (Physical and Sports Activities) and Mónica García Perera (Hospitality and Tourism) have been awarded, the three students from IES Felo Monzón Grau-Bassas: Jesús Roque Armas Martín (Image and Sound) and Omayra Déniz Montesdeoca (Maintenance and Service to Production), both from IES Politécnico de Las Palmas; María del Pino Suárez Arencibia (Health), from IES Teror and María Dolores Alfonso González (Textile, Clothing and Leather), from IES La Minilla.
Débora Susana Carmona Villar (Administration), from IES Majada Marcial; Olaya María Suárez Román (Building and Civil Works), from IES Geneto; María José Santos León (Personal Image), from IES Las Indias; María Jaqueline Herrera Marichal (Food Industries), from IFPA Tacoronte; Santiago Cruz Díaz (Informatics and Communication), from IES César Manrique; Hekate Gallardo Delgado (Chemistry), from IES Tegueste; and Fayna Mercedes Sánchez Jiménez (Socio-cultural and Community Services), from IES Lila, have also won the award.
