The Lanzarote-based company Perforaciones y Sondeos la Cañada opens the first well in La Palma for the installation of portable desalination plants. It achieves this after more than a week working "against the clock" 7 kilometers from the Cumbre Vieja volcano.

The company is on the island of La Palma making wells more than 70 meters deep a short distance from the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano, in the Puerto Naos area. On Sunday night, the first successful catchment borehole was completed, "finding water in the first of the 3 open cuts."

The catchment wells that are being made "are crucial for the installation of portable desalination plants that guarantee the supply of water in the area", both for the irrigation of banana plantations and for human consumption.

The drilling is being carried out without rest, working "in three shifts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." The company states that in each shift there are 8 operators working "to obtain the necessary depth to find the water that will later be desalinated", with two high-tech machines, with a diameter of more than half a meter. The excavation area is located "about 300 meters away from the sea."

Perforaciones y Sondeos La Cañada, is a technological leader in the archipelago in this type of work, and was required by Tedagua, the company in charge of getting the water to banana plantations and the population in general.

The conejera company emphasizes that "it paralyzed all activity" to respond with the utmost urgency to the seriousness of the situation facing the inhabitants of La Palma.

The Perforaciones y Sondeos La Cañada expedition left the port of Lanzarote last Friday, October 7 with seven heavy vehicles and two large drilling machines. It is expected that in a few days the portable desolators will be installed and that fresh water will flow to the palmeros irrigation fields.
