The General Directorate of Dependency, Childhood and Family of the Government of the Canary Islands is carrying out an awareness and information campaign so that young people are aware of the importance of uploading videos with violent content to social networks. The campaign has been launched "incentivized by everything that is happening in the Canary Islands", and in particular in Lanzarote, such as the last two videos that have run through social networks, in which two minors are seen attacking another at the doors of the IES Arrecife, and a minor hitting another in Titerroy.
The general director of Dependency, Childhood and Family, José Gilberto Moreno, explained this Friday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that young people today "are not more violent than before", but admitted that "the exhibition method has been magnified". That is, some are looking for "a mistaken protagonism" by posting violent situations on social networks.
"This must be stopped, because you can not give the image that it is normal for young people to fight. They hang this type of content on social networks looking for news or a mistaken protagonism. What they do is advertise themselves in this type of situations and commit an educational and even criminal error", José Gilberto Moreno pointed out.
Therefore, he believes that it is a "danger" that young people who visualize this type of content, such as the aggression in the IES Arrecife, "believe that it is normal behavior, because it is exposed in a social network". Moreno has opted to carry out "informative and preventive" campaigns to inform all these young people that "anything put on a social network can be criminal and will mark the present and the future of a person".
And, according to what he has pointed out, that a young person appears in a video of these characteristics can have an effect not only on his personality, but "on the development of his life, because he is already going to be labeled, especially if the content is not adequate, and is violent, sexual or drug use, including alcohol".
"We can violate the Law"
The problem is that when a content of these characteristics is uploaded to a social network or sent through a tool such as WhatsApp, "it reaches everywhere and is something that will be in the virtual curriculum of a person for life". But, in addition, it can also be a breach of the Law, since you can not expose "a visual content executed by minors". "The exhibition and distribution of any content of minors is prohibited and you have to be very careful, because we can violate the Law", he indicated.
Moreno has also opted for the "training of parents" so that they know what type of content their children visualize on social networks or on their mobile. "I appeal to a preventive, informative and educational work, which should prevail over the inspection work", he defended.
Despite these episodes of violence, the general director of Dependency, Childhood and Family has assured that the vast majority of young people in the Canary Islands have "an exquisite behavior". "When this type of thing arises in the educational environment, they sit down, talk and analyze it. There are many young people who are aware that this is not normal, but it is necessary to eradicate those who believe that appearing in a video doing this type of acts, has importance or protagonism", he stated.
