The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Department of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families, has authorized the transfer of 1.4 million euros to the Cabildo of Lanzarote to start the works of the residence for the elderly in Tahíche.

This facility, dedicated to the care of the elderly, will consist of 90 residential places and 50 day places.

This was reported this Monday in the Governing Council by the Minister of the area, Candelaria Delgado, who specified that "in this way, an essential project for the island of Lanzarote that had been approved in 2019 is resumed, but which, however, had not been executed."

"We need to enable social and health places in the Islands to meet the demands of our population, which continues to age and must have an adequate network of resources. We have to combine tools contemplated in the Dependency Law so that many elderly people can remain in their environments, but, in addition, we must have a network of infrastructures for those people who need another type of care and need to be in a center," he added.

The autonomous Executive is working from the beginning of the legislature on the promotion of social and health infrastructures. In addition to promoting these facilities by authorizing these first transfers, from own funds, the Ministry is finalizing agreements with all the councils to allocate 72 million euros of European funds to create new social and health places in all the islands.
